Loyalis
Business objective
Loyalis, part of a.s.r., has a strong position in the Dutch disability insurance market, serving sectors such as healthcare, education, energy and government.
Within this market, Loyalis offers a collective disability insurance scheme, where all employees of a participating employer are automatically insured. To support continued growth in this segment, Loyalis needed to take the next step: implementing a full participant administration solution for the scheme.
This expansion significantly increased administrative processing requirements: Loyalis expected around 1 million additional UPA (uniform pension submission) messages per month, with volumes potentially growing to 10 million messages due to retroactive changes, known as TWK mutations.
The objective was clear: create a scalable, future-proof participant administration setup that could handle rapidly increasing volumes, maintain high performance and ensure reliable service delivery.
Solution
In close collaboration with Loyalis, Keylane implemented the participant administration for the disability insurance portfolio on Keylane’s Lifetime pension platform, combined with our Benefits Plaza solution, by introducing a payroll integration through UPA. The project focused on creating a scalable, reliable, and high-performance processing platform. This included redesigning UPA processing workflows, optimising data flows and storage mechanisms, and improving the efficiency of batch processing.
Throughout the project, Loyalis and Keylane worked pragmatically and with s strong focus on results. Technology decisions were continuously aligned with business objective to ensure that the solution would not only work technically, but also support Loyalis’s growth ambitions in the collective disability insurance market. Through targeted optimisation and performance engineering, processing speed was significantly improved, with UPA message processing becoming up to 20 times faster.
Business value
With the implementation of the new participant administration solution, Loyalis now has a scalable and future-proof platform for collective disability insurance. The solution delivers significant business value by enabling Loyalis to:
- Process more than 1 million additional UPA messages per month, supporting continued growth in collective disability insurance without adding unnecessary operational complexity.
- Scale up to 10 million messages during peak periods, ensuring reliable processing and service continuity even during periods of high volume and retroactive changes.
- Improve processing performance by up to 20x, significantly reducing processing times and increasing operational efficiency.
The project also reinforces the partnership between Loyalis and Keylane. Together, the teams delivered a robust solution that meets the evolving demands of the insurance market and supports Loyalis in further strengthening its position in collective disability insurance.
“By using the UPA connection, we can check each month whether our customers are paying the correct premium. This allows us to identify in time if something is not correct and inform our customers in a timely manner. The data quality of the policy administration is also improved through the information from the UPA connection. Ultimately, this relieves the burden on the customer.
Realising the UPA connection in collaboration with Keylane has also led to work for the customers, but the benefits are experienced quickly. We are very pleased with how the collaboration between the different departments has taken place and are also very much looking forward to the further development of the application landscape.”
