Charles Clarke joins Keylane to lead P&C as Lukas van Grunsven becomes COO

Keylane has appointed Charles Clarke as Managing Director of its Property & Casualty business. Lukas van Grunsven, who led P&C for 12 years years, has moved into the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer.

P&C insurers are being asked to launch products faster, automate claims and underwriting, and hold the combined ratio while they do it. At the same time, they’re deciding how AI fits into the core they run on. These two appointments are built around that imperative. One gives Keylane a leader for growth. The other gives it an operations leader for everything that already runs.

Innovating for tomorrow: Charles Clarke, Managing Director P&C

Charles has spent his career where insurance meets data and technology. He joins from Guidewire Analytics, where he was Group Vice President and led the global field organisation. Before that, he held senior commercial roles at Praedicat and Moody’s RMS.

He takes over a P&C business with a strong base. Keylane has completed more than 25 P&C migrations, moving over 15 million policies onto Axon, with a 100% implementation track record.

Charles joins Keylane as the business strives to help insurers launch faster and automate more, win in the markets where Keylane is strongest, and be the foundation that makes AI work.

“It’s an exciting time to join Keylane. In P&C, insurers’ ideas often move faster than their systems, and that’s the gap I came here to close. Insurers already rely on Keylane for a proven core, and Keylane Automate is where they build on it: governed AI workflows for claims, underwriting and product, on a European foundation they control. My first priority is time with our customers and partners, to understand where they want to move faster, and to ensure Keylane is innovating to match.” Charles Clarke, Managing Director P&C

Built for today: Lukas van Grunsven, Chief Operating Officer

Lukas has been with Keylane for nearly 20 years. He led P&C through major milestones, including the move from on-premise licences to a full SaaS model in 2015, and expanding Keylane’s international footprint, with go-lives in Belgium, Norway and Germany between 2017 and 2019. As COO, he brings operations for P&C and Life & Pensions under one leadership for the first time.

Keylane already takes end-to-end responsibility for its implementations, including partners’ work. With one COO across both business lines, customers of both L&P and P&C now have a single executive accountable for how Keylane runs the platforms our customers rely on.

“AI is changing how insurers and pension funds run their operations. But it only works on a core you can trust, with data that’s that is always available, consistent and secured. In 20 years at Keylane, I’ve seen that’s where we’re strongest. Keylane Automate is built on that foundation, across both P&C and L&P. My aim is to ensure each Keylane customer can continue to rely on their trusted platform and receives the full benefit of what we build.” Lukas van Grunsven, COO
